Kumari Bank provided financial support to The Sugandh Thalassemia Project which is the sister concern of Round Table Nepal. The said organization has been working in the Nepalese education realm to provide quality education through infrastructural development, investment, in education for the underprivileged kids, as well as healthcare services. The Sugandh Thalassemia Project is one of its remarkable endeavors that works to ensure an improved healthcare access for the Thalassemic denizens, hailing from low-income, underprivileged background.
In simple terms, Thalassemia is a genetically transmitted blood disorder, in which the body makes an abnormal form or inadequate amount of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in large numbers of red blood cells being destroyed, which leads to anemia. The consequences of this disease range from iron-overload, which causes damage to the heart, liver and the endocrine system, iron overload, high susceptibility to various infections, bone deformities, enlarged spleen, slow growth rates in young children, congestive heart-failure or irregular heart rhythms, etc
It is evident that with this disease patient require a lifelong, expensive medical treatment and aftercare. Hence, the funds provided shall be utilized solely to meet the medical and nutritional needs of the patients being treated within the facility. In order to render our solidarity with such noble endeavor which also falls in the line with one of our areas of concentration under CSR, i.e. Health, Kumari Bank collaborated with the Sugandh Thalassemia Project, led by Round Table Nepal.
